RE: Fishing in Southern Oregon - advice?

Thanks Tommy They are drift boaters rather than bank fishing so not really what we want. The Chetco and the Rogue are both running through canyons as they approach the sea and a lot of the bank is privately owned so finding access points is hard unless you are native to the area or have travelled there for several years and know the area. As my parents are flying in from the UK, I wanted to give dad an experience rather than ending up driving around aimlessly. Thanks

Fishing in Southern Oregon - advice?

Just about to head North to Brooking, OR where we will be staying for 2 weeks for a bit of R&R and I have the fly tackle ready! We have tried a bit of fishing on the Chetco River at Brooking and on the Rogue River up from Gold Beach by the State Park, but are there any fishemen out there with knowledge of the Southern Oregon fishing spots for fly fishing. We are after trout, steelhead and if possible salmon. I am travelling with my 74yo father and we are bank fishing - no boat and all fly. Any suggestions on places that are not too far away? I have the Jeep for off road access if necesary Thanks all.

RE: More Arizona speed camera's

As others have said, the UK and rest of Europe is full of them and they catch a lot of people and generate a lot of money. The SPECS ones are the nastiest - they take a digital photo of your tag when you enter a 'speed restricted zone' and another when you leave and calculate the time it took. The secret 'apparently' is to change lanes in the zone and 'apparently' you can't be prosecuted - so you swap speeders for lane changers - great! Also remember that most speed limits were set when we were driving 1950's trucks (well I wasn't but most of you were LOL) whereas today with improved vehicle design and safety features, the current speed limit may no longer be appropriate in some areas. Also states vary - for example you can drive along a straight desert road in Oregon at 65mph and the same type of road in Texas or Arizona at 75mph - what's the difference? It's another piece of out of date legislation that needs to be redone - it never will be of course.

RE: Highesnet sat internet - setup help needed

Thanks everyone - joined Datastormusers and read loads and loads and this is the answer just for the record. The fix was to use 192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html and at the bottom, under Installation, there is an option to FORCE RANGE - my setup was showing that it was unable to range and so I read to try a Force Range - I did and after a minute I was connected and browsing. I have no idea what went on or why I should have to Force Range - but I did and it worked :) Thanks all for your suggestions

RE: Wifi signal booster

I tried that Wi-Fire and it's the biggest load of overpriced junk around - there are far better products at half the cost out there. If it worked for you then that's great - maybe they just have bad batches of them and it's hit or miss as to whether they will work or not. I guess that's what happens when it's Made in China :(

Highesnet sat internet - setup help needed

I need help from RVers who use a portable tripod system - I have the tripod now sorted and the dish mast is as close to vertical as a bubble can set it. I have installed the cabling and the modem into the RV and now need to point the dish to get it all working. So I start with the hughesnet installation setup - the one at 192.168.0.1/fs/registration/setup.html and set my zip code and choose the transponder - in my case it's Horizon 1 - I then set the correct elevation and polarity/skew on the dish and point at the approximate (190 degrees) from my location in Arizona. I run the signal strength meter and do a slow left and right around the correct direction, I raise elevation a couple of degrees and try again and lower a couple and try again - I get a kinda constant 15 signal strength that seems to randomly move to 17/18 or drop to 9 - I tried disconecting the Receive LNB and it dropped to 0. What am I doing wrong? I've done DirecTV dishes by this method and I can usually pick up something even if it's been the wrong satellite. Any clues?

RE: Verizon LG Dare is a very fast Rev-A phone

Ha, bring it to Lake Havasu City, AZ and see if you get the same speeds LOL I think the term is 'Your mileage may vary' The only real test is to compare it to another Verizon phone at the same location to see whether the speeds are due to Verizon's network at that point or the phone.

RE: Satellite Internet - tripods/mounts etc

Thanks all for the help - I've checked out a lot of the sites mentioned and everything seems a little pricey - so I'll investigate the surveyor tripod options - it seems to be the interface between the dish and the tripod that is going to be the troublesome thing.

RE: Chrome

Just think about it. Google is an ad company - everything it does is all about selling ads. Whether it's free mapping, free search, free local photos, free webstats, free analytics, free shopping or free web browsers - EVERYTHING is geared up to display more focussed and thus more valuable ads. You will never see Chrome with an ad-blocker - it will have great tools and great usability in the end but it will also be one of the most legally invasive tools to track your online behavior. If anyone has been watching NebuAd Inc recently they will know that behavior tracking is being investigated by a congressional committee - that's because it has to be Opt In and not Opt Out. However with Chrome you are volunteering to download and run it and you are agreeing to be tracked. It's not all doom and gloom - if done right, behavior targeting can mean more ads that are of more interest and ads pay the bills which is why Maps/Search/Photos/WebTools are all free and not $19.95 But I believe that you should have a choice - have an ad free Internet and pay for it or have it free with ads.

Satellite Internet - tripods/mounts etc

Although we have wifi/Sprint aircard etc, we have finally realized that we also need Satellite Internet as we travel due to work commitments. So I have found a dealer that will sell me the equipment all set up at his office (Hughesnet). The question is about a mount that is sturdy enough - does anyone have a home made mount or tripod that they could post a picture of and also any instructions or hints on correctly aiming the dish? Thanks for any advice

RE: RV makes a splash into Mission Bay!

It was the part about the MH being worth $200,000 I don't think any MH is worth that in today's market :)

RE: The RV life-One hundred miles, plus or minus 45 degrees

Where are you in Brookings? We stayed at the Rivers Edge campground and are heading back there at the end of September for 2 weeks of fishing. If you know it, answer me a question - what happens if a rig+toad leaves at the same time as a rig+toad arrives? They need some traffic lights LOL

RE: Tires Replacement Of When

Just to add a little fuel to the fire - in almost all cases I would have said it was probably time for a change - however, with 50k+ miles on your tires you have more use than is typical. If those miles were evenly spread out over the years then I'd suggest that you may have a couple of years left on them - however if they were mostly done in one or two years and the other years, the MH was just left standing then you might be pushing it. So it's never clear cut - but I see you took the best way and decided to change them - the peace of mind is worth the cost.

RE: Goodyear remarks about tire aging.

Sunlight causes cracking but the deterioration comes also from ozone and from standing around not being used. You should also have similar rolling circumferences on both tires otherwise one will heat up more than the other. Personally, and this really is just my opinion, it's the lack of use that causes more damage than sun and ozone. Use that as a reason to get the MH out more often!

RE: Class A in VERY hot weather - window treatment?

The adhesive one wouldn't be suitable unless you wanted it to stay there - the static cling can be removed in winter. Yes, I did the end windows and it's not been affected by the rubber seal wiping across them. Sat here in Vegas in 108 degrees and when combined with the shades, it's perfectly livable. I have the front screens but if I was staying a long while, I'd be tempted to have a piece for the windshield that I could apply and remove each time.

RE: Upgrading a/c in my class C

Check out my thread in the Class A section on using solar film on the OUTSIDE of the glass - makes a huge difference and is cheap. The 8k and 10k units are the same size - I was thinking about amps when I suggested the 8. The unit sucks air through a filter at the back, cools it and blows it out the top - it has a remote control too which is neat. There is a pipe similar to a washer/dryer vent pipe that goes to a plate that you fit into a window opening (very neat looking) that ejects the hot air out. It's quieter than my roof ac. We have two slides in the front and it cools that area down so you'll be fine with one in the bedroom.

RE: Goodyear remarks about tire aging.

I don't think you can draw any concusions from this whatsoever. The only similarities between the two are that they are black and round.

RE: Thousand Trails for 45' coach

I agree - I'm a very happy TT member but 40' would be my limit - never had a problem with 38' (but I am very good at spatial awareness LOL) - 45' would be pushing it and cause you a whole lot of hurt.
